Your laptop is not much use with a faulty or broken trackpad. If you’ve got a spare mouse handy, you could plug in an external mouse, however this is certainly not a long-term solution and certainly does not help with portability.
The first thing you’ll want to do is check that you haven’t accidentally disabled the touchpad. Look for a key near the top of the keyboard that looks like a touchpad and try pressing it to see if this re-enables the touchpad (you might to press the function [Fn] key at the same time when doing this). Check your mouse properties or mouse settings to see if the touchpad has been disabled there.
If you’ve tried doing the above then it's likely that your laptop’s touchpad is damaged. Book a touchpad repair for your laptop if you’re not getting a response from the pad or buttons. Your laptop will also need a repair if the cursor is jumping about on the screen or isn’t going where you want it to.
